Hundshübel

In the western part of the Ore Mountains, close to the border with the Vogtland region, you'll find the village of Hundshübel just off the B169. It nestles in picture-perfect surroundings, bordered by forest on one side and the south-eastern bank of the Eibenstock reservoir on the other. From the highest point in the village, the Viechzig road, you can see far across the reservoir up to the ridge of the Auersberg peak in the Ore Mountains.

The village celebrated its 460th anniversary in 1995. It was founded from Eibenstock in the first half of the 16th century, most likely at the behest of the House of Tettau, which had ruled the Schwarzenberg region since 1425. At this time, the population of the western Ore Mountains region was growing rapidly due to the success of the mining industry. Reminders of the period are still visible around the area today. The village church is more than 200 years old.

Although Hundshübel itself does not have a dedicated business park, it boasts an excellent infrastructure. Which is why many service providers and other businesses have moved into the area. Long-established workshops and firms as well as new businesses have all shown encouraging growth in recent years.

The village is also a wonderful place to spend your free time, with beautiful hiking trails around the area and along the banks of the reservoir. It even boasts two popular Kneipp therapy baths on the Viechzig Circular Trail and on the Marienweg.

Another sight worth seeing is the traditional Ore Mountain labourer's house - the "Nadlerhaus" - which includes a local history museum. The village's former school building now houses a kindergarten and apartments. Hundshübel became part of the Stützengrün municipality as part of the 1999 boundary changes.

Lichtenau

The first documented record of Lichtenau dates to 1350. Which is why the village celebrated its 650th anniversary in 2000.

It is a typical scattered village, and was originally an agricultural settlement, with most residents working in the industry. The total area of the village is 620 ha, of which 100 ha is forest, and more than 500 ha is devoted to agriculture. The highest point in the village is 666 m above sea level. The village was originally part of Wiesenburg until 1843, when it temporarily came under Kirchberg. It was reassigned to the province (later district) of Zwickau in 1873. In 1953, the village became part of the district of Aue, and on 01 January 1996, it was brought under Stützengrün.
